EllieBeth Designs UK: Decorating for Stickerating

Background Basics Part 1

Hello, again! It’s me, Natalie, back with another post for the EBDUK blog. If you’ve ever had a peek in my planner, you’ll know that as well as stickerating my pages, I also love to decorate my pages with large splashes of colour. To do this, I use some simple mixed media techniques, which I plan to share with you in my next few blog posts.

To start, I’m going to give you step-by-step instructions on how to cheat at watercolour and achieve beautiful backdrops to EllieBeth Designs UK stickers. All you need for this is:

  • a sheet of EBDUK stickers
  • three run-of-the-mill felt-tip pens
  • a piece of plastic (I used some scrap packaging.)
  • water in a spray bottle (Mine is an old hairspray bottle.)
  • a hairdryer
  • a cheap paintbrush
  • your planner or notebook.

Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up: 22 – 28 October 2018

As it was the half-term holidays last week, and everyone was home, I wasn’t sure how much crafty time I’d have (or how much energy) but it turns out I had plenty of crafty time (even though I didn’t have much energy) so I made and shared lots of projects. First-up: card-making.

I had a couple of custom card orders come in this last week, so I made a start on the first one which was for four harvest/autumn-themed thank you cards, two of which are pictured above. Now I just have to get cracking on the dozen bespoke Christmas cards that have also been ordered.

On to scrapbooking … Despite being totally worn out after my birthday celebrations (All I did was go to the pub for lunch!), I managed to put together lots of layouts. There’s something about sitting alone in my craft room and playing with all my goodies that lifts my spirits and gives me energy. I did keep having to stop and veg-out on the sofa every-so-often though. Still, I’m learning to listen to my body and brain and take it easy on them when they need a break!

Next up is a spot of art journaling I did in the mini notebook my sister gave me for my birthday. I’ve decided to use it for collecting quotes. Whenever I come across a quote I want to remember, I write it down in one of my many journals and jotters, but now this little notebook is going to be the place where I gather them all together, so I know where they are when I want them. I’m also thinking of making little notebooks like this for friends and family who might appreciate the quotes and artwork too.

Finally: planning. This week, I set up my November monthlies in my bullet journal using the gorgeous Grateful Heart collection from EllieBeth Designs UK. I’m really looking forward to starting the EBDUK gratitude challenge on Thursday and filling my weeklies with things to be grateful for!

And that’s about it! What have you been up to this week? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for stopping by! xxx

Mixed Media Monday | Life Is Lovely With You

Hello! It’s Monday so that must mean it’s time for some mixed media. This week, I use a napkin as a background paper and match it with some tropical ephemera from my stash. Enjoy the video!

Cheeky Studio: Hooray for Birthdays | Artist at Work

Hello! Last week, I came to the end of the Cheeky Studio Sweet Succulents kit, so this week I’m moving on to the August kit which is based around the Notebook Nancy ephemera. Before we get into that though, here’s a card I shared on Tuesday. This is another one I made using embossed card, Gelatos and the Wishes ephemera. I love all the soft colours and florals in this – so full of life!

For my first Notebook Nancy layout, I used a photo of my daughter doing some drawing while waiting for her meal to arrive at Pizza Express a few years ago. The colours in the kit and the ephemera pieces worked perfectly with the photo and theme – I love the little coffee cup and the stationery items. The sequins from the Cheeky Studio Winter Flowers mix go really well with the colour scheme too and add just the right amount of sparkle.

You can watch the process video for this layout below.

Mixed Media Monday: Let It Shine

I had a bit of spare time last week, so I filmed a process video for this layout, and, as I was filming. I thought to myself: why not start a new series on YouTube called Mixed Media Monday? It’s not a very original title, but as I love alliteration, I’m going to stick with it!

So, what I’m going to do is film some mixed media videos when I get the chance and post them when they’re ready. This is in addition to my usual YouTube schedule, but it will be ad hoc. I probably won’t post a Mixed Media Monday video every week, just when I have time.

Here’s the first installment. Thanks for watching! xxx

Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up: 15 – 21 October 2018

Hello, and welcome to another Weekly Round-Up! I made and shared lots of different things last week. First-up are a couple of cards created using stamps from Mama Makes and Skull and Cross Buns. As well as stamping, I broke out some supplies I hadn’t played with for a while. I used a Christmassy embossing folder and Gelatos to create the background for the Mama Makes card, and I used the Skull and Cross Buns Geometric stencil with more Gelatos for the ‘well done’ card.

For Cheeky Studio, I created a ‘Happy Day’ card using the Wishes ephemera and sequin mix. I like the sentiment on this as it can be used for more than just birthdays. I also put together a 12×12 scrapbook page using the Sweet Succulents collection and other pieces from the July Cheeky Studio Cheeky Kit Club kit. If you’d like to see how this layout came together, there’s a process video on YouTube.

Speaking of scrapbook pages, my October embellishment kit from Lottie Loves Paper arrived this week, so I used it, along with some other bits and bobs from my stash, to create these 12×12 layouts. I love the combination of Emerson Lane and Magnolia Moments – the colours work really well together.

Finally, I did a spot of artful journaling on Wednesday. There’s a process video for these pages on YouTube too. I used watercolours, acrylics, stenciling and stamping for this spread and it was a lot of fun to create.

And that’s it. What have you been up to this week?
