This Week On YouTube: 15 – 22 June 2019

Hello, lovely friends! This week on YouTube, I shared three videos that you might like to watch. On Sunday, I shared the making of two Fathers Day cards. On Wednesday, I showed you how I created some artist trading coins to take to the EllieBeth Designs UK Annual Event on Saturday. And on Friday, I created a sea-themed page in my art journal for World Music Day – it’ll make sense if you watch it!

Next week, I’ll be setting up my bullet journal for July 2019 and taking part in a YouTube premier hop organised by the lovely Joie de Fi. Hope to see you there!

Thanks for stopping by! See you soon. xxx

Weekly Round-Up: 11 – 17 February 2019

Hello, lovely friends! Thanks for stopping by my blog today. It’s been rather quiet here lately, and for good reason – I’ve realised that I need to slow down a bit, especially when I feel like going faster. Over the course of my recovery from mental illness, I’ve found that my energy can ebbs and flow quite significantly. Sometimes I have no energy at all – it takes all I’ve got to get out of bed in the morning – and sometimes I have so much energy I feel as if I am ricocheting off the walls! During these more energetic phases, I tend to make the most of it and end up overdoing it, which usually leads to longer, more pronounced energy-less phases. I know I need to better pace myself so that I don’t have such exaggerated ups and downs, so I’ve taken a bit of a break this last week or so and have been gathering my thoughts about how to move forward.

It’s not just my energy level that suffers when I’m bouncing around and spinning all the plates; it’s my attention. I miss things. I stop noticing things. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned from this latest bout of mental illness, it’s that being mindful, being aware, stopping to smell the roses, is fundamental to my wellness and to my creativity. If I try to move too fast, I end up on autopilot and miss out on all the good things in my life. But if I go slow, if I live mindfully and intentionally, I experience the fullness and richness of life which in turn pours out of me into the things I create. That’s the kind of life I want to live.

I’ll write more about all this in a separate post, so for now, I’ll leave you with links to three videos that I’ve shared recently. I hope you enjoy them! Bye for now. xxx

Weekly Round-Up: 14 – 20 January

Hello, and welcome to this week’s round-up! I spent most of last week working on a new project: creating a junk journal in which to record my book club reads. A couple of weeks ago, one of the neighbours invited me to join the book club that meets in our street, and the next meeting was last Monday. I’ve been wanting to get back into reading for a while. When my mental health starts to slide, reading is one of the things I stop doing – I find it too hard to concentrate. And although I’m well into recovery and reading short magazine articles and daily ‘thought for the day’ type passages, I’ve yet to get back into reading fiction. I’ve also been wanting to deepen my roots in the local community and deepen my relationships, so being invited to book club happened at just the right time, and I jumped in feet first.

I had a lovely time at the club, getting to know the other members and nattering about books, and when I got home I decided I wanted to record my book club adventures and thought what better place to do it than in a junk journal made from book pages (amongst other things). It’s taken me all week, but I’ve finally finished it and completed my first entry. If you’d like to watch the process, you can visit the playlist on my YouTube channel. Here are some pictures of the papers and embellishments. I’ll share the finished article next week.

I didn’t have much time for scrapbooking during the week, so I saved it to the weekend. For layout one, I used the new Florals cut file from Cheeky Studio and cut it on my cameo. I love how the flowers stand out against the background I created using Nuvo Shimmer Powders and LOTS of water!

For layout two, I used the beautiful cloud paper I bought in the winter sale at Lottie Loves Paper. I used my craft knife to cut around some of the clouds so I could tuck my photos behind them. I love this technique – I shall be using it more!

For layouts three and four, I tried to use as many pieces of patterned paper as possible. This month, the For the Love of Pretty Paper Facebook group has challenged its members to use as many patterned papers as possible. So far I’ve used 26 12×12 sheets!

I also created these layouts for the Scraptember Stash Bash. I’m really enjoying delving into my stash this month. It’s so satisfying to use the things I have and to see them come to life on a page.

For Cheeky Studio, this week, I shared another layout where I used my craft knife to cut around the edge of a shape – this time I cut around the outline of the flowers in the bottom left of the paper, and tucked this photo of my daughter beneath. I love how this turned out. The pink in the Autumn Beauty collection went perfectly with the pink of my daughter’s umbrella too.

Well, that’s it for this week! Thanks for stopping by! xxx

Weekly Round-Up: 7 – 13 January

Hello, lovely friends! So, we’re now in the third week of January (It’ll be Christmas before we know it!) and I’m well and truly back up to speed.

First up, design team news: my terms with EllieBeth Designs UK, Mama Makes and Skull and Cross Buns have come to an end and I’ve decided not to stay on as I would like more time to concentrate on my own design projects. So ‘thank you’ to Rachel, Loti and Emily – I had a brilliant time on all three teams and am very grateful for the opportunities I had and experiences I gained. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you go from strength to strength!

Right, on with the week. On Tuesday, I shared a video in which I created these mixed media tabs and bookmark. I needed some tabs for my bullet journal, so I created my own by painting some mixed media paper and then punching out the shapes. The bookmark I made from the leftovers and some Tim Holtz word phrase stickers.

It was a busy week on the scrapbooking front. I shared a layout for Cheeky Studio and made some layouts for the Scraptember Stash Bash Prompts. You can find out more about the Stash Bash over in the Scraptember Facebook Group.

On Saturday, I took some time out to journal. This is the page I created. I recorded a process video which I’ll be sharing soon.

And on Sunday, I went to church and took with me my colouring pencils, colouring book and journaling Bible. I love my church – no one batted an eyelid when I set up a table in the corner and coloured my way through the service!

Finally, I finished my December Daily album and shared a flip through on YouTube which you can watch here.

And that’s it for last week. This week has been all about junk journaling, but I’ll share more about that in next week’s round-up.

Thanks for stopping by! xxx

Weekly Round-Up: 31 December – 6 January

Hello, and welcome to my first weekly round-up of 2019! Last week was a wonderfully quiet Christmas Recovery week. My husband went back to work on Wednesday, but the children didn’t go back to school until today, so home was very chilled, and I had some time to potter in my craft room, the fruits of which you can see below.

My Bread was created for the Scraptember January Stash Bash prompt: cork. In the Scraptember Facebook Group, I’m sharing a stash-bashing prompt every day. There’s no pressure to do each one; they’re just there to inspire. I haven’t scrapped each one, but I’m hoping to have a crack at some more this week.

For Not All Treasure Is Silver and Gold I used the Cheeky Studio Ahoy ephemera and flair. It was perfect for scrapping this picture of my daughter who spent about three of her preschool years dressed as a pirate!

By far the best Christmas present I’ve ever received is the Silhouette Cameo 3 digital cutting machine that my husband gave me this year. It is so easy to use! It helps that I’ve got a background in photo editing, and it didn’t take me long to create my own wave cut file and cut it out of a piece of mixed media paper for my third layout of the week. This machine is going to take my paper-crafting to the next level.

The last page I created was In the Sand. The Scraptember Stash Bash prompt was punch so I used a craft punch to punch out little flower shapes and added them to the Cheeky Studio Latte Love sequin mix which I popped into a pocket I’d made to look like my daughter’s sand pit. I also squeezed some washi-tape on the layout too – another of the Scraptember prompts.

In the evenings, I spent some time journaling long-hand in my travelers notebook. Before I wrote a word though, I spent some time mindfully adding watercolour to the pages, as well as some splatters of gold and torn strips of washi – I’m really loving torn washi at the moment. There’s something soft about those raggedy edges.

As well as playing in my journal, I decided it was time to decorate the cover. It was starting to get a bit battered, so I covered it in strips of torn washi and then covered that in packing tape to protect it further. I love the way it turned out. Blue, Teal and Purple is my favourite colour combination at the moment – it’s so soothing.

The other thing that I’ve been doing, is I’ve gone back to basics in my bullet journal. Another present my husband gave me for Christmas was The Bullet Journal Method by Ryder Carroll, so I’ve been reading that and applying some of its advice to my planning. I’m in the middle of recording a series of videos about my reflections on the process. You can watch the ones I’ve already published here.

And that’s it! The kids go back to school this week, so I should have a bit more time to art and craft now. Thanks for stopping by! xxx

Weekly Round-Up: 17 – 31 December 2018

Hello, and welcome to my last weekly round-up post for 2018! It’s actually a fortnightly round-up post this time because I’ve taken a bit of a break over Christmas, plus I’ve been ill. I’m in the third week of a really horrible virus, and I’m still coughing my guts up every five minutes. Anyhoo, this is what I’ve made and/or shared over the last couple of weeks.

Cheeky Studio Projects: two cards, a 12×12 layout and an unboxing video.

My Cheeky Studio Design Team Products for January:

Mixed Media Monday Projects:

Scrapbook projects created using elements from the Lottie Loves Paper ‘Over the Rainbow’ kit:

Mixed Media Projects. My guiding word for 2019 is going to be ‘deeper’. These were made with that in mind. I want to explore and develop my creativity and go deeper, below the surface.

December Daily Catch-Up. As I was ill, I didn’t do much of note and took shockingly few pictures. Still, I mananged to journal about each day. I also included some of the Christmas memorabilia I gathered. I even made some tags out of the Christmas cards we received. I’ll do a proper flip-through on YouTube soon.

And that’s it! Thanks for stopping by! xxx

Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up: 19 – 25 Nov 2018

Hello, and welcome to this week’s round-up post! Last week was all about recovering from the Health and Wellbeing Day last weekend – I made sure I had a restful Sunday and a slow start to the week. Still, I got a lot done …

On Monday, I shared a mixed media layout created using Distress Inks and lots of water! You can watch the process video here. On Tuesday, I shared a card made using Cheeky Studio Sweet Succulent ephemera. On Wednesday, I shared a watercolour Christmas card featuring a sentiment from the Mama Makes Sending Hugs stamp set. On Thursday, I shared another Christmas card made using stamps from Skull and Cross Buns.

As well as sharing previously-made projects, I also made a set of custom cards, an art journal layout, and a 12×12  scrapbook layout. YOu can watch the accompanying videos here and here.

On Friday, I received my December design team pack from EllieBeth Designs UK. It was the absolutely stunning Galaxy Creative Pack which I couldn’t wait to use, so on Saturday I filmed a live video on the EBDUK facebook group and turned the creative pack into a mini album using my tag dies from Tim Holtz. I’m going to use the album to record my daily gratitude in December.

This mini album will be a lovely accompaniment to the And So the Adventure Begins sticker collection that I’ll be using in my bullet journal next month. Speaking of which; this is how my bullet journal looked at the start of this week. The stickers are from the EBDUK Winter Dreams collection.

On Sunday, I did a bit of scrapbooking, just for fun and for the Winter Olympics Challenge over at For the Love of Pretty Paper. Not a huge fan of the chevron paper, but at least it got used!

Well, I think that about wraps it up! Next week, I need to crack on with some Watercolour Mastery practice and my December design team makes. Thanks for stopping by! xxx
