Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up: 12 – 18 Nov 2018

If I had to sum up last week in just one word, I’d choose the word productive. As well as all my usual design team work, and the Watercolour Mastery course I’m taking, I had all the preparations for Saturday’s Health and Wellbeing Day to do – which, by the way, went very well. If you like, you can read about it here.

So what about design team work? For Cheeky Studio, I shared two cards I made using the Sweet Succulent ephemera, and one 12×12 layout I made using the August kit and Notebook Nancy ephemera.

For Mama Makes, I used a sentiment stamp from the Sending Hugs set on a Christmas card. It’s not always appropriate to send someone a ‘merry’ Christmas card, so I like to make some that might be more suitable. For Skull and Cross Buns, I used several elements from their new Christmas range to create another Christmas card. It’s rather unusual, but I like it!

For EllieBeth Designs UK, I shared a few peeks of my planner and used the new Winter Dreams collection to set up this week in my bullet journal.

For Watercolour Mastery, I had another bash at the beach scene I painted last weekend. As I knew I wouldn’t have much time to paint, I decided to do smaller versions of the painting on greetings cards and try different colours to see how they effected the mood of the painting. My favourite is the one on the right. I think I achieved a better variation in value, and the colours are brighter, more uplifting. After painting these, I took them along to the craft fayer, and, interestingly, the only one that didn’t sell was the one on the left which has darker and stormier tones.

As for the other cards I made for the Health and Wellbeing Day, here they are:

I didn’t make them all from scratch, some of them were half made and I just finished them off. Still, it was a very productive week – my die-cutting machine has never seen so much action! Some of these cards are still available to buy via my Etsy shop, and 25p from the sale of every card will be donated to the Southern Health Recovery College.

So that was last week. What about this week? Well, I’ve got my usual design team makes to share and a bunch of custom cards to make and an Etsy order to fulfill. I’ll also be tackling this week’s Watercolour Mastery lesson which is all about different ways to paint from reference photos. Plus there are some facebook challenges I’d like to try to do, and a few videos I need to film. I’ll tell you how I got on with all that next Monday.

Until then, don’t forget, if you’d like to buy anything from the shops I’m on the design team for, you can use the discount codes below!

Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up: 05 – 11 Nov 2018

Hello! It’s Monday, so it must be time for another weekly round-up.

For Cheeky Studio this week, I shared two project. The first was a birthday card I made using the left over Sweet Succulents clusters from the July kit, and the second was a homework-themed layout, created using the August kit, featuring the Notebook Nancy ephemera. The kits themselves aren’t available anymore, but you can still buy the individual ephemera packs on the website. Don’t forget to use my code natalie10 for 10% off your orders!

Speaking of Cheeky Studio, I created another layout featuring their ephemera for my Mixed Media Monday series on YouTube. For this 12×12 I used the ‘On the Cover’ ephemera to scrap this picture of my children sitting in our local library, reading books. To create the mixed media background, I used Nuvo Shimmer Powders and LOTS of water on a piece of Vicki Boutin Foundations paper – it took the water really well. I’m impressed!

For Mama Makes, I made a stack of watercolour Christmas cards and used the ‘merry christmas’ stamp from the Cozy Christmas stamp set. It was the perfect size for these 4×6 cards. For Skull and Cross Buns, I used the Santa’s Workshop set to stamp the robot and doll, the Merry Christmas Neon Sign Rubber Stamp and the acrylic stocking embellishment on top of an embossed panel I coloured using Gelatos.

My biggest project this week was One Week In My Bullet Journal. Every day, I filmed my planning sessions and shared them on YouTube. The photos below show how the week turned out. I used the EllieBeth Designs UK Poppy Fields stickers as it was Remembrance Day yesterday. Rachel donated 100% off the profits from the sale of this collection to the Royal British Legion – which totalled £250.

For the coming week, I’m using the Grateful Heart collection and am again combining my personal tasks and my creative work tasks in the same bujo. I liked having everything in one place last week, so I’m hoping it works well for me this week.

Angela Fehr’s Watercolor Mastery course continued with its second week last week. We looked at value and how to master it and bring depth and vibrancy to your watercolours. We painted Notans and Value Studies before trying a painting based on a high-contrast photo. I chose a photo of a lotus flower as it was beautifully lit and had the full range of values. I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out although I think the background still needs a bit of work.

Week 3: Colour, Not Just a Theory

This week, we are looking at colour and how to use it to affect the mood of our paintings. On Saturday, I tried my hand at a beach scene. I used a photo I’d taken on our trip to Knoll Beach a couple of weeks ago and made a Notan and Value Study before attempting the actual painting. I’m finding the Notans and Value Studies really helpful – they make me look properly at the picture and help me determine where to focus my painting attention.

Over the next few days, I plan to paint this scene again, using different colours to play with the mood. I also want to paint it looser and with more expression.

Finally, here are some other cards I made. This Saturday coming, I’ll be selling my cards at our local Health and Wellbeing Fayre. As I’m doing a lot of watercolour practice at the moment, I’ve decided to focus on painting watercolour cards to sell too. They always seem to sell well – and if the Christmas cards don’t sell-out, I’ll just use them myself!

Well, that’s it for now. Thanks for stopping by! xxx

Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up: 29 Oct – 04 Nov 2018

Well, that was quite a week! It started off nice and quiet and then just exploded into fevered frenzy of scrapbooking. But before we get into that, here are the cards I shared for Mama Makes and Skull and Cross Buns. For the Mama Makes card, I used a stamp from the beautiful Family Sentiments set. For the Skull and Cross Buns card, I used the Christmas Geometric Tree Large stencil, the Christmas Bevelled Star stamp and the ‘with love’ stamp from the Quirky Sentiments set.

I also set up my new journal. I’ve switched from an A5 notebook to travelers notebook inserts – I prefer the dimensions of it. It just looks and feels right.

My sister gave me a lovely little notebook for my birthday last week, and I’ve decided to use it as a repository for quotes. I couldn’t just write them down though, so I’ve also turned it into a little art journal.

Now, on to scrapbooking … I made another layout for my Mixed Media Monday series in which I used a napkin as a background paper and added gesso and Distress Oxides. For Cheeky Studio, I used the August ‘Notebook Nancy’ kit to make a layout featuring two reading-photos of my daughter. Both layouts have process videos on YouTube.

The scrapbooking frenzy started on Saturday with a spontaneous weekend of challenges set by Sarah Jane in the Lottie Loves Paper Facebook group. There were ten in total, and I managed to complete them all. I had loads of fun using bits from my LLP kits and delving into my stash to find other bits I’d forgotten I had! The For the Love of Pretty Paper Facebook Group also launched their Winter Olympics challenge, so I made a layout for the first event – the luge.

On Monday, on the EllieBeth Designs UK blog, I shared my post about how to use mixed media in your planners. And over the course of the week, I painted a couple of pictures for the online course I’m taking at the moment: Angela Fehr’s Watercolour Mastery. We’re only in the second week now, but already I can tell it’s the perfect course for me to take at this stage of my watercolour journey.

So, I think that just about wraps it up. It’s been a whirlwind of a week, and I seem to have regained a little bit of energy, which is fab. My brain is nowhere near as foggy as it’s been recently. Hurrah!

This coming week, I will be filming and sharing daily Plan With Me videos in which I give you a nitty-gritty insight into what I get up to each day, both in my personal life and in my creative life – and, more importantly, how my bullet journal helps me to navigate through it all! Stay tuned for that. Thanks for stopping by! xxx

Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up: 22 – 28 October 2018

As it was the half-term holidays last week, and everyone was home, I wasn’t sure how much crafty time I’d have (or how much energy) but it turns out I had plenty of crafty time (even though I didn’t have much energy) so I made and shared lots of projects. First-up: card-making.

I had a couple of custom card orders come in this last week, so I made a start on the first one which was for four harvest/autumn-themed thank you cards, two of which are pictured above. Now I just have to get cracking on the dozen bespoke Christmas cards that have also been ordered.

On to scrapbooking … Despite being totally worn out after my birthday celebrations (All I did was go to the pub for lunch!), I managed to put together lots of layouts. There’s something about sitting alone in my craft room and playing with all my goodies that lifts my spirits and gives me energy. I did keep having to stop and veg-out on the sofa every-so-often though. Still, I’m learning to listen to my body and brain and take it easy on them when they need a break!

Next up is a spot of art journaling I did in the mini notebook my sister gave me for my birthday. I’ve decided to use it for collecting quotes. Whenever I come across a quote I want to remember, I write it down in one of my many journals and jotters, but now this little notebook is going to be the place where I gather them all together, so I know where they are when I want them. I’m also thinking of making little notebooks like this for friends and family who might appreciate the quotes and artwork too.

Finally: planning. This week, I set up my November monthlies in my bullet journal using the gorgeous Grateful Heart collection from EllieBeth Designs UK. I’m really looking forward to starting the EBDUK gratitude challenge on Thursday and filling my weeklies with things to be grateful for!

And that’s about it! What have you been up to this week? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for stopping by! xxx

Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up: 15 – 21 October 2018

Hello, and welcome to another Weekly Round-Up! I made and shared lots of different things last week. First-up are a couple of cards created using stamps from Mama Makes and Skull and Cross Buns. As well as stamping, I broke out some supplies I hadn’t played with for a while. I used a Christmassy embossing folder and Gelatos to create the background for the Mama Makes card, and I used the Skull and Cross Buns Geometric stencil with more Gelatos for the ‘well done’ card.

For Cheeky Studio, I created a ‘Happy Day’ card using the Wishes ephemera and sequin mix. I like the sentiment on this as it can be used for more than just birthdays. I also put together a 12×12 scrapbook page using the Sweet Succulents collection and other pieces from the July Cheeky Studio Cheeky Kit Club kit. If you’d like to see how this layout came together, there’s a process video on YouTube.

Speaking of scrapbook pages, my October embellishment kit from Lottie Loves Paper arrived this week, so I used it, along with some other bits and bobs from my stash, to create these 12×12 layouts. I love the combination of Emerson Lane and Magnolia Moments – the colours work really well together.

Finally, I did a spot of artful journaling on Wednesday. There’s a process video for these pages on YouTube too. I used watercolours, acrylics, stenciling and stamping for this spread and it was a lot of fun to create.

And that’s it. What have you been up to this week?

Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up: 08 – 14 October 2018

Hello, and welcome to another weekly round-up! Last week was busy with card and video-making. Next week, my kids have a week off school, and I wanted to get come projects in the bag, so I can take my foot off the pedal for October half-term. It’s looking good so far!

This week, I shared a couple of projects for Cheeky Studio.

I also made a couple of cards. One for Skull and Cross Buns and one for Mama Makes. There is a tutorial for the Get Well Wishes card over on the Mama Makes blog.

I’ve also been playing with making my own 12×12 background papers for scrapbooking.

I had a lot of fun making those papers, so I’ll definitely be exploring that further!

For EllieBeth Designs UK, I shared a few snaps of my bullet journal. I used distress inks through stencils to create the backdrop to the gorgeous Fairy Tail stickers.

I also did a spot of Bible Journaling on Sunday. You can watch the process video on YouTube if you’re interested.

And that’s it for this week. This coming week, I’ll be sharing more projects for the design teams I’m on, and getting further ahead for next week’s holiday.

Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up: 01 – 07 October 2018

Hello! Well, things are back to normal now that Scraptember is done and dusted. Despite loving all the memory-keeping I did last month, I missed card-making, so it’s been great to get back to that!

For Cheeky Studio, this week, I created this set of three ‘thinking of you cards’ using some pieces from the Pink and Cream Bouquet collection, and a 12×12 scrapbook layout featuring the July Kit Club Kit. You can watch the process video for that on YouTube.

For Skull and Cross Buns this week, I created another card using the Quirky Sentiments Bundle which is still available to buy on the Create and Craft TV website. Emily also released her new Christmas range this week. I used it to make this starry card with the little robot and space ship. Keep your eye open for more cards made with these stamps and stencils over the coming week.

For Mama Makes, I made a couple of starry encouragement cards using the ‘Star Shine’ stamp set. There’s a video on YouTube of that process too. I really enjoyed making these cards as I got to play with all my favourite media and tools: watercolour paints, stamps and inks, sparkly thread, sticky gems, embossing folders and stickers!

And for EllieBeth Design’s UK, I shared some of the pages in my bullet journal that I decorated with the stunning Fairy Tale sticker collection, which is perfect for this time of year as Summer most definitely gives way to Autumn.

So those are this week’s makes and shares. What have you been up to?

Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up: 29 – 30 September 2018

Hello! For the month of October, I’m going to be sharing my Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up posts on a Monday to spread my blogging out across the week, and as it’s only been three days since my last Round-Up, I only have a few days to talk about … but what a few days!

Saturday and Sunday were the last two days of Scraptember, so here are my last two projects: a spread in my bullet journal and a 12×12 layout using ALL THE BUTTONS!

And that’s it! Scraptember 2018 is officially over. It’s been a blast, and I’m really chuffed that the Scraptember Facebook Group is still thriving. If you haven’t joined but want to, please do, as we’ll be having regular challenges and games until at least this time next year!

Yesterday also saw the debut of Emily and Skull and Cross Buns on Create and Craft TV. Emily did an amazing job demonstrating her stamps and stencils, and there was at least one sell-out! A few of my design team makes put in an appearance too, which was very exciting.

I also shared one more sample for the show: a tropical themed party invitation.

So that’s September over and done with. Now for October. This month, it’ll be a little quieter on my blog as I won’t be posting every day, but this is the schedule I’m going to stick to. There may also be extra posts if I’ve got something extra to say!

  • Mondays – Design Team News and Weekly Round-Up
  • Wednesdays – Crafting Out Loud, including videos
  • Fridays – Scrapping Out Loud, including videos
  • Saturdays – Planning Out Loud Weekly Set-Up, including videos
  • Last Wednesday of the Month – Planning Out Loud Monthly Set-Up, including video

That’s it for now. Thanks for dropping in. See you on Wednesday! xxx

Design Team News & Weekly Round-Up: 22 – 28 September 2018

We’re almost at the end of Scraptember. I can’t quite believe that in two days it will be over! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it even though it’s been full-on: memory-keeping and video-making every day has been tough but rewarding. I’m feeling a great sense of accomplishment at the moment – come Monday, that’ll probably be replaced with a ‘What am I supposed to do now?’ feeling, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come it.

So, here’s what I made and shared for Scraptember this week.

I’ve shared a few cards too. Emily from Skull and Cross Buns is making her TV debut on the Create and Craft channel on Sunday 30th September at 10am, and I’ve been busily making samples for the show, some of which are below. Do tune in and watch as there will be some exclusive stamp and stencil bundles available to purchase.

That’s it for now. Thanks for stopping by! xxx

Design Team News & Weekly Round-Up: 15 – 21 September 2018

So, Scraptember continues apace! Somehow, I’ve managed to keep up with the goals I set myself of memory-keeping everyday, sharing a memory-keeping layout everyday and posting a YouTube video everyday. Once October rolls around, I’m going to need a very long lie-down in a dark room!

Here’s what I’ve been up to this week.

First-up: my Scraptember shares. If you’d like to see how they came together, there are videos on YouTube for all of these layouts.

Next-up: cards. Because of Scraptember, it’s been quiet on the card front, but here are two I’ve shared this week.

Finally: planning. This week, I’ve moved from the light and breezy Here Be Dragons theme to the warm and cosy Nettle the Hedgehog theme – The nights are drawing in and Autumn is definitely in the air, so it felt like the right time to switch planner vibes. I shall miss the dragons and their cheeky faces, but Nettle and friends make a cute and cuddly replacement!

That’s it for now. Thanks for stopping by! xxx
